Pretend to be a burglar

Walk around your property and ask yourself: How would I break in? Examine your house from the street, where are the blind spots? What are the most vulnerable areas and, therefore, likely to be attacked?

Lights Outside

Install lights in all outside entrances. You could consider sensor lighting or lighting that will come on with your burglar alarm.

Alarm System

For the most effective alarm system, conceal all wiring. A professional burglar looks for places where he or she can disconnect the security system.

Lights Inside

If you are out and about in the evening time, always leave a light or two on to make it look like someone is home. An unlit house with no car in the driveway is an open invitation to thieves. It’s also a good idea to leave the radio on.

Dogs act as a great deterrent to burglars. While security is not a good enough reason to get a dog, if you actually like dogs it is always an option.
